Chapter 19 - External Challenge

In Europe : .. there was a higher demand for raw materials... which meant international trading ..but the main problem was that Europe was producing more goods than its people could buy, Which lead to Europe looking towards Asia because its high population. Unfortunately  having foreign relations ( Markets) mostly only benefited the wealthy , and they became known as imperialist.
At first Europeans during the 18th century, took likeness to the Chinese and the African culture but when  the 19th century came along, it was like their love for the two cultures died.  The change, meant the uprising of " Racism". Europeans even used scientist to justify the indifference amongst the cultures. Race became everything, it determined intelligence and moral development. Of course the Europeans had to stay superior and above the rest so when the races were ranked, the " Whites" came before others The views of the Europeans  resulted in a lifetime of discrimination and mistreatment. The Europeans applied the theory of survival of the fittest to everyone, so this basically meant every race, is for themselves and we as people must fight amongst each other just because we come from different cultures...
bad enough.... Asia  ( china ) was already having problems within their country which lead to a peasant rebellion , but to many Europeans that did matter, they still continued to be bullies, in china the British started an opium war, to teach the Chinese a lesson,  the war was as  if the Chinese were being punished for trying to protect their country.  thanks to the opium war tho, the Chinese trading was open to many other countries who abused their privileges.
The Chinese weren't the only ones who's government was ruled and dependant on the Europeans, The Ottoman Empire, was faced with dealing with the Europeans along side the Chinese. but one country  who arose above the Europeans was Japan. to the Europeans Japan modernization made them " an economic, political and military competitor"
